Why I like BLOOM COUNTY

1) Opus The Penguin

2) Steven James Dallas the Republican Fratboy who never ceased going after the Feminazi School Teacher Bobbi Harlow no matter how many times she hit him....Sort of like Claire Wolfe during her PMS Days :P

3) Tess Turbo the Joan Jett takeoff

Tess Turbo was a rock star who appeared at the Meadow Party's 1984 benefit concert, (a satirical take on Steve Wozniak's Us Festival) with Opus playing air guitar behind her. One of the comic strips from this time revealed her inner dialogue in which she characterized herself as a "shy, sensitive, withdrawn young woman who likes Smurf dolls, sad rainy days, and silly, romantic poetry."

She appeared in an earlier strip, in which Steve Dallas won a role in her MTV music video. Steve unsuccessfully sued her after all his chest hair was permanently burned off during the making of the video; during the trial, televised on The People's Court, she called Steve a "total jerkface" who deserved everything that he got. Her songs include "Scuzzbucket From Nantucket".

Tess, along with her band "The Blackheads", was a parody of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

My all time favorite one was where the Meadow Party was holding their 1984 caucus, a Mondale supporter strolls in and is told that the Mondale convention is across the street. He asks who they have to go up against Reagan in the fall, to which they respond, "A dead cat." The Mondale supporter quips, "Oh, what the hell," and strolls on in.


BTW I still have two Opus Dolls left (PENGUIN LUST AND SANTA OPUS) and will hold onto them since they are extremely rare and I have seen them sold on EBAY for up to $200 !




I also have the Paperback Trade Books from the 1980's and recently used up all my Credit at a Local Used & Rare Book Store to buy including the OUTLAND Series....


Also have an Opus Lapel Pin I picked up at a NYC Shoppe for $5.00 back in 1986 and still wear it ! Just wish to God I bought a Bill & Opus for President Shirt back then !
